The importance of lipids as one of the fundamental classes of biological compounds is well established. The application of our knowledge of the biochemistry, chemistry and physiology of lipids to biotechnology, the fats and oils industry and medicine have continued to expand apace. In addition new dimensions such as lipid biophysics, especially with relevance to membranes and lipoproteins, and basic liposome research and applications have been added. To cope with all these advances in knowledge a journal is needed to review recent progress in particular fields and to set current research against its historical background. Progress in Lipid Research fulfils this role.Each volume contains up-to-date surveys of special aspects of lipid research. The invited reviews are comprehensive enough to provide sufficient overview but concentrate on reporting and critically appraising the most recent data. Subjects are chosen for their timeliness or because major developments have taken place in the last few years. They include methodological reviews as well as chemical, biochemical and medical articles. All lipid compounds and derivatives are covered, ranging from fatty acids and other simple molecules, through steroids, terpenoids and phospho- or glycolipids to complex structures such as lipoproteins and biological membranes. We hope that those whose main interest is in lipid biophysics and liposome research will join as new readers, benefiting from the journal's classical aspects of lipid metabolism, lipids in signal transduction and lipid enzymology, and that current readers will benefit from the exposure to top quality research on the new aspects.Prospective authors of reviews should send a presubmission enquiry with key references to one of the Editors.

Progress in Materials Science publishes authoritative and critical reviews of recent advances in the science of materials and their exploitation in engineering and other applications. Emphasis is placed on the fundamental aspects of the subject, particularly those concerning microstructure and nanostructure and their relationship to properties (mechanical, chemical, electrical, magnetic, optical or biomedical) including the atomistic and electronic nature of condensed phases. Also desirable subject matters are the thermodynamics, kinetics, mechanisms and modelling of processes which occur within solids, liquids and other condensed phases; experiments and models which help in understanding the macroscopic properties of materials in terms of microscopic mechanisms; and work which advances the understanding of the use of materials in engineering, healthcare and other applications. Materials of interest are metallic, ceramic, polymeric, biological, medical and composite in all forms. Manuscripts are generally of greater length than those found in journals specialising in research papers.

Progress in Nuclear Energy is an international review journal covering all aspects of nuclear science and engineering. In keeping with the maturity of nuclear power, articles on safety, siting and environmental problems are encouraged, as are those associated with economics and fuel management. 1) PNE seeks high quality research papers which are medium to long in length. Short research papers should be submitted to the journal Annals in Nuclear Energy.
2) PNE reserves the right to reject papers which are based solely on routine application of computer codes used to produce reactor designs or explain existing reactor phenomena. Such papers, although worthy, are best left as laboratory reports whereas Progress in Nuclear Energy seeks papers of originality, which are archival in nature, in the fields of mathematical and experimental nuclear technology, including fission, fusion (blanket physics, radiation damage), safety, materials aspects, economics, etc.
3) Review papers, which may occasionally be invited, are particularly sought by the journal in these fields.

Taking the format of four issues per year, the journal aims to discuss new developments in the field at a level suitable for the general nuclear and particle physicist and also, in greater technical depth, to explore the most important advances in these areas.   • Agreement does not apply to fully Open Access journals, but a discount is available when publishing in these titles, and the Library may be able to support payment of Article Processing Charges (APCs) – authors should use the Open Access enquiry form to check with the Library’s Open Access team prior to submitting papers for publication ?

  • This publisher?has a wide-ranging portfolio of journals covering most disciplines supported at The University of Manchester, from the Humanities to the Sciences.   

How to access the agreement

  • During the submission process, state that you are affiliated with The University of Manchester?and use your university email address?  

  • When presented with publishing options, select ‘Gold Open Access: Publish as an Open Access article’  

  • The publishing options screen should show that, for authors affiliated with The University of Manchester, the agreement between Jisc and Elsevier will cover the APC  

  • Upon acceptance, complete Elsevier’s ‘Rights and Access’ form, again select the option for ‘Gold Open Access: Publish as an Open Access article’ 

  • Select the CC BY 4.0 licence  

  • Article will be published Open Access via the journal website within 24 hours

Progress in Pediatric Cardiology is an international, peer-reviewed journal of high quality scientific research, reviews, and experienced opinion important to the understanding, management and improvement of all aspects of cardiovascular diseases in children - including but not limited to prevention, treatment, outcomes, quality improvement, patient safety, nursing, medical education, epidemiology, adult congenital heart disease, genetics, and family advocacy.

The journal is now accepting original research observations, brief research reports, reviews, and letters to the Editor.
In addition, some issues and sections of the journal will continue to be prepared in collaboration with one or more Guest Editors. These special issues will focus on a single subject, allowing for comprehensive presentations of complex, multifaceted or rapidly changing topics of clinical and investigative interest.

Progress in Pediatric Cardiology is committed to publishing high-quality papers in all areas of pediatric cardiology through a fair and rigorous peer review process.
