Welcome to the University of Manchester Open Access Journals Guide

The Open Access Journals Guide simplifies the process of identifying potential journals to publish your research. The Guide allows you to search and filter thousands of journals by research discipline and areas of interest, and includes at-a-glance information on Open Access options tailored to our publisher agreements and funding available at the University of Manchester.
We value your feedback on this Guide: please let us know if you find the Guide helpful by completing this one-minute feedback form [forms.office.com].
You can find out more about the Office for Open Research’s support for Open Access publishing via our website and knowledge base [manchester-uk.libanswers.com], or contact us if you’d like any further information.

BioEssays

ISSN: 0265-9247eISSN: 1521-1878

molecular - cellular - biomedical - physiology - translational research - systems - hypotheses encouraged BioEssays is a review-and-discussion journal publishing novel insights, forward-looking reviews and commentaries in contemporary biology with a molecular, genetic, cellular, or physiological dimension. A further aim is to emphasise transdisciplinarity and integrative biology in the context of organismal studies, systems approaches, through to ecosystems where appropriate. The journal has three main sections: Insights & Perspectives (for ideas, hypotheses and commentaries), Prospects & Overviews (for review-style articles) and Reports & Opinion (for meeting reports, book reviews and letters to the Editor). The Prospects & Overviews section contains mini-reviews highlighting very recent research articles, and longer papers that present a field, its developments and prospects for a broad readership; we also welcome methods papers (including presentation of new model systems) under the rubric Methods, Models & Techniques. The journal's insightful analysis makes it essential reading for professional researchers (from basic research through to medically-related fields), as well as an invaluable tool for lecturers and students. Mean time to first decision: 22 days Affiliated with Epigenesis, the European Network of Excellence for epigenetics research.

BioFactors

ISSN: 0951-6433eISSN: 1872-8081

BioFactors is an international journal aimed at identifying and increasing our understanding of the precise biochemical effects and roles of the large number of trace substances that are required by living organisms. These include vitamins and trace elements, as well as growth factors and regulatory substances made by cells themselves. The elucidation, in a particular organism or cell line, of the roles of substances active in trace quantities, is frequently applicable directly to many other forms of life.

BioNanoScience

ISSN: 2191-1630eISSN: 2191-1649

BioNanoScience is a new field of research that has emerged at the interface of nanoscience and biology, aimed at integration of nano-materials into engineered systems, for new applications in biology and medicine. The aim of BioNanoScience is to provide a forum for the rapidly growing area of bionanoscience, emphasizing the link between structure, properties and processes of nanoscale phenomena in biological, biomicking and bioinspired structures and materials for a variety of engineered systems. The journal promotes fundamental research in bionanoscience and engineering to advance nanoscience, nanotechnology and engineering, toward application in biology and medicine. This new journal will provide a forum for this interdisciplinary community by publishing highest quality peer-reviewed publications. Methods covered in this journal include experimental (including but not limited to imaging, via SEM/AFM/optical microscopy and tweezers: x-ray scattering and diffraction tools, electrical/magnetic characterizations: design, and synthesis via self-assembly, layer-by-layer, Langmuir films: biotechnology, via recombinant DNA methods, and protein engineering, etc.), theoretical (e.g. statistical mechanics, nanomechanics, quantum mechanics, etc.) and computational (bottom-up multi-scale simulation, first principles methods, supercomputing, etc.) research. Areas of applications of interest include all relevant physical, chemical, and biological phenomena and their engineering into integrated systems: mechanical (e.g. deformation, adhesion, failure), electrical and electronic (e.g. electromechanical stimulation, capacitors, energy storage, batteries), optical (e.g. absorption, luminescence, photochemistry), thermal (e.g. thermomutability, thermal management), biological (e.g. how cells interact with nanomaterials, molecular flaws and defects, biosensing, biological mechanisms s.a. mechanosensing), nanoscience of disease (e.g. genetic diseas, e, cancer, organ/tissue failure), as well as information science (e.g. DNA computing). The journal covers fundamental structural and mechanistic analyses of biological processes at nanoscale and their translation into synthetic applications. Studies of interfaces (e.g. between dissimilar structures, organic-inorganic) are of particular interest. In the area of interface between dissimilar structures, papers are also welcome on hybrid systems, including CMOS integrated circuits embedding organic nanostructures as well as biological components.
